Feeling heavy and troubled about a dear friend’s return of cancer and too, of mental illness impacting loved ones I walked alone atop snow-clad Knob Hill near my home yesterday. I prayed to be of help to my dear ones. Also, I prayed not to lose my connection to myself, my guidance and God - in worry. I opened myself to the God I know speaking to me in everything in every moment.

A moment later, a hawk flew toward me across the valley cradling the city below. With magnificent wings wide she attempted landing atop a lone Ponderosa Pine before me. The tree top would not support her weight. Massive wings, each with feathered finger-tips flapped above me as she clung to her unsteady perch. Fine details of her speckled belly and fanned tail were shown to me. Then she swooped to the air soaring back across the valley from whence she came.

Hawk is the Messenger of God (according to the First Nation tradition within ‘Medicine Cards” by Jamie Sams, David Carson). Hawk’s message: Be aware. Pay attention to the messages being sent to you by life and by God all the time. Herein is the answer to a currently stressful situation. Intuitively discern the messages and truth sent to you.

As hawk flew off I turned for one last look at the sunset. The sun had sunk behind distant Terrace Mountain. Radiant beams pierced yellow flaming clouds upon the horizon and stretched all the way to heaven. Jacob’s Ladder! Angels streaming from heaven to earth. In that moment I felt deep comfort. My beloved ones are safe – we are all safe, all eternally cared for.
