If You Can’t Find What You Love 4. Site of the Month Find What You LoveI am purposely keeping my thoughts to you very short this month so you have time to read three inspirational stories. These stories compose the speech given by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios, during the Commencement address he delivered to Stanford University Graduates on June 12, 2005. In his first story, Steve Jobs speaks of how we can only connect the dots in our life looking backwards and must therefore trust that the dots will somehow connect in our future. Steve’s second candid story teaches deep lessons about love and loss. Lastly, Steve speaks of death. Throughout this standing ovation speech Steve Jobs brings home the message, “You’ve got to find what you love.” Click here for the full speech (about ten minutes of inspiring reading). If You Can’t Find What You LoveIf you can’t seem to find what you love Steve Jobs recommends, “Keep looking.” Draw a picture of your ideal work. Take note when you are so involved in something you lose all track of time – what are you doing? Pay attention when you hear yourself thinking, “What a great job,” or “I’d love to be doing that.” Catch the idea before it is squelched by the “BE REAL” police. You know what you would love to be working at. If you are feeling completely discouraged or hopeless with “finding what you love” maybe the timing is not right and you need to stop looking… for now. I have seen many people suffering from a work injury, (unkind) lay-off, huge financial distress, sleep deprivation, hopelessness, and debilitating worry and fear. In these instances we may need to stop; feel our feelings, allow some healing time and get some support rather than pushing ourselves for answers. It is hard to move onto something else when we are still bitter, angry, grieved, or shocked by life events. People with financial hell-hounds hard at their heels may need to grab a “just-until-job” to survive. It is very difficult to make big career decisions overnight or when distraught about finances or past circumstances. Most of all, be patient and kind with yourself. And trust… I hope you enjoyed this e-zine and found it useful. I look forward to hearing from you. Until next month’s issue, Warmest regards, Teresa ********************************************* I would love to hear from you!
