Say Yes, and They Will ComeI love to hear people’s success stories. I see the short term successes daily in my workshops but only occasionally hear of people’s long term accomplishments. Just recently, I decided I wanted to hear more success stories and find more people to mentor in my workshops. Yes, you guessed it – the day I decided this I met with success stories right away! We are selling my father’s condo via a local business called okhomeseller.com and the site photographer, Dawn, was a person from one of my programs. Dawn had worked for years in administration at a very busy resort in our fair city until it was bought out. Not long after she was given walking papers as the new management was bringing in their own staff.
Your Husband’s Passion – Or Yours? Also being a wife and mother Dawn took extended leave to be home with her children all-the-while wondering how she would ever get back into the workforce and what work would she enjoy. Her husband had a photography hobby which became so expensive he began taking occasional shots to help pay for his equipment. Dawn followed along learning his hobby and indulging his passion (as we women too often do at the sake of our own true interests. Ask yourself: “Are the hobbies/interests I spend time at really my own?” Of course, we are willing to share in our partner’s interests because we love them but not at the cost of our passion.)
Lifetime Passions BloomThe big difference for Dawn is that she vividly remembered her childhood dream gift – a camera. Originally Dawn was attracted to her mate because of their shared love of photography (among other things). When her husband was too busy in his own work to take on the “Okhomeseller” photography contract – they both knew Dawn could do it and was ready for the challenge. Today she loves her job; working around her kid’s schedules, chatting with interesting clients, having change and variety in her day, and wonderfully expressing her love of photography for a living! To make this dream happen, Dawn made some important moves. Dawn’s passion passed the litmus test of time. By pondering what we’ve loved over a lifetime we can reconnect with our passions. Also, Dawn’s success bloomed because she was exploring and practicing her interests even while she was in the “I don’t know what to be/do” mode. She didn’t immobilize herself with the all-to-common thinking, ‘I don’t what I want to do, I am so confused/lost, I can’t start until I know what to do…” This vicious cycle only creates more confusion and confirmation “I am stuck and cannot move.” Here, the doors are closed to host of amazing miracles, people and help that are waiting to pour into our lives.
Explore and Practice What You LoveSo even if you don’t know your direction make the shift and say, “Ok I am ready and willing to take the next step toward knowing.” At some level we DO know what we want and love even if we are not conscious of it yet. Can we relax and trust that we know (and it will be revealed to us in God’s perfect timing) all-the-while exploring and practicing what we love? And this was the final crucial step that kept moving Dawn toward her dream. So my friends, please send through your success stories I love to hear them :) Next time I will tell you a story about an utterly amazing young woman who went from a being a paraplegic on her couch to a national contender in a competion for women’s figure, fitness, body building pageant!
