This is the longest e-zine I have written, 915 words, as I could pare down a visitation from God only so far. Do you have less than three minutes? Here's how I more fully reconnected with my God.

Table of Contents

1. God Works in Wondrous Ways

2. God in Nature

3. Express Your God-ness

God Works in Wondrous Ways

Did you make your New Year’s Resolutions this year? I didn’t. Striving to achieve doesn’t work for me any more nor does self-willing. Years ago, I achieved goals though steely, self will but now, I prefer to follow God’s promptings which speak to me in wondrous ways.

For instance, last October, a mentor of mine prompted me to create a vision board. “What is most important to me? What must I express in this life?” I pondered. Despite some scepticism I began collecting, and eventually gluing; quotes, magazine pictures, and photos representative of my life now and of my aspirations for the future onto a poster board. As Christmas approached - surely my vision board was ready for lamination. I knew of nothing missing, yet something in me said,” Wait.”

After a short Christmas break our son returned to university and my husband to work. Everyone was busy and back to their lives while I, now alone, was re-visited by grief and lost-ness. The dream I'd awoken from that very morning, in tears, was a player in my dark mood. In my dream I felt hopelessly lost, empty, dark, rudderless, dampened, and flameless watching other people live lives of passion, purpose and joy. Now with Christmas, my husband and son gone I felt the life sucked out of me.

Then, as sad story-lines stirred my mind (my Mom/Dad/boy-son/passion/direction/ career/youth gone) I said, “No thank-you.” I pulled myself from the couch and headed for nature - a nourishing, balancing force in my life. I drove to Kin Beach, the head of our 75 mile long, Okanagan Lake. With the unusually long, cold spell I knew the head of the lake would be ice – an uncommon occurrence here in our valley - which I enjoyed seeing.

God in Nature

This day, a leaden sky sank to the hill tops. White snow blanketed the ice, stretching about one hundred yards into the open, black water of this huge lake. Then, déjà vu. I’d stood on this white ice stretching to the black open water – with every detail exactly the same – in an image from a dream not long ago. Now, standing in this exact dream image, I felt the Great Weaver’s hand at work.

Walking down the beach toward the towering, black poplars I spotted a Bald Eagle on a low branch. Approaching near to him he ruffled his feathers, tilted his fine, white head and seemed to say, “I am the Great Wild King. You tread too closely.” Massive wings unfolded and the Bald Headed Eagle soared a short distance down the beach landing on another low limb.

Following him down the beach I walked past him this time and then, on my return approached his perch once more. Clearly perturbed by my third entrance into his space his majesty took to the air. This time he flew directly over me and then, with a sharp u-turn over the lake the King flew back - straight at me. I froze.

This majestic being flew to me and then, hovered above my head! My breath caught, my heart hammered. Rooted to the spot, head bent back, I gazed at the wild beauty suspended above me. Expansive, seven to eight foot wings, each with elegant feathered fingers, powerfully thrummed the air above my head. A yellow eye bored into me. His beak a weapon of gold. The mass and size of this hovering predator seemed impossibly huge while me, frighteningly small. Deadly, bright yellow talons – longer than my fingers - dangled above my head.

Electric shocks prickled my flesh, my hair stood on end. God’s glory speaking to me! “Look! I am here! I am God’s Wild Beauty. You are God’s Wild, Beauty! Majesty, glory, power, freedom, and beauty – all Eagle – all God – all You.” In awe and fear I trembled as his fierce-some, God-ness burned into my soul.

Then, this divine being flew back over the lake, rolling his great body from side to side shaking off mortal chains. He circled back, perching directly above my car! Humbled, and still shaking, walking to my car I neared his perch. Honouring me one more time, this winged glory launched into the air and flew directly over my head before soaring away over the lake.

I wept in joy and awe. Fifty-four years I’ve spent loving nature and have never experienced anything like this.

Express Your God-ness

In Greek mythology, Eagle represents the one chosen to spread God’s word and Eagle represents Great Spirit in First Nation’s tradition. A few days later it came to me. Eagle was saying, “You are the Chosen One to express Great Spirit in the world.” Eagle’s message to me aligned with my mission which I had pasted atop my vision board. “My purpose is to fully express my True Self in my life, my writing and my speaking.”

Expressing Great Spirit, my Truest Self, in my life, writing and speaking is my life mission. However, this is not a singular message for me - but a message for all of us. Each of us is called to express our God within to the world.

So my friend, I’ve found great wisdom revealed to me through prayer, journaling, nature, and my vision board - now hanging above my desk as I write to you. What mediums will you open yourself to so you might better know and express your True Self? How can you best express your Wild God Beauty?

Heartfelt Blessings to you all,

Love Your Life and Work!
