Table of Contents 1. What is Your Word? 2. We Have Our Answers Within 3. What Do You Need to Stop Doing? What is Your Word?A few months ago I wrote about the ‘word’ each of us has and are here to embody and teach according to Oriah, author of "The Call." I’d never heard of this idea before but it rings true. If each of us is birthed with unique gifts to be expressed why not a specific word to embody and teach? Of course, I wanted to know my word. Was it "trust? Security? Freedom? Expression?" As one cannot dig for such answers I asked God to send "my word" along to me. The next morning I was journaling insights around a recurring, disturbing dream. I saw how my inner taskmaster was the fear-driven-side of deep feelings of unworthiness (that have haunted me a lifetime despite professional success). Then my ‘word’ hit me. "Worthy!" Just like that. There it was. So clear. So obvious. With two big, brothers - five and seven years older than me – I’d struggled from my first steps to keep up - to prove my worth. Yet, that doubting Thomas within me wondered, “Could my word really come so easily and clearly?” I reflected upon it, prayed for confirmation and then, forgot about my word for weeks. We Have Our Answers WithinLast January I felt called to join Toastmasters after a number of ‘God incidents’ pointed the way. I’d taken a year for myself after my Dad died, our son left for university, a long-time career ended, and I slowly recovered from anaemia. Now it was time to re-enter the world. I never imagined then I would now be entering speaking contests. However, this October I am speaking in the area contest for Table Topics and the Humorous Speech Contest having ‘won’ at our club level first. In Table Topics a person is given a topic or question and then has two minutes to impromptu speak on that topic. The question I had to answer in my club competition was, “If everyone and everything in the world were frozen for one hour except for you what would you do with that hour?” My quick reply surprised me. “I know exactly what I would do” (‘Really!’ I’m thinking, ‘What??!’) “I would take control of the airwaves, computers, TVs, all means of broadcasting and reprogram people’s minds while they were still. I’d rewrite old beliefs so that people would know they were truly worthy.” Somehow I made this fantastically impossible idea seem worthy and likely! Upon later reflection what surprised me the most was the ‘Worthy” theme! Having my word rise so clearly from the depths of my unconscious was a powerful confirmation of its validity. But now, what do we do with our word? What Do You Need to Stop Doing?Oriah says following our soul’s call is not about “What do I need to do?” In following the voice of our calling and of our soul we need to stop doing. Oriah advises looking for our word within our biggest lifetime struggle. The place where we get into trouble – lose ourselves. If we are to embody and teach our word then it must be something we ourselves have had to learn. How can we teach something we didn’t learn or repeatedly practise? When I feel wound-up energy pushing me to, “HURRY! WORRY! DO!” I know I must STOP. Stop getting busy, stop pushing to get this or that accomplished, stop grasping at externals to feel worthy. Instead I am learning to compassionately sit with the fear of not being enough, of inadequacy, that drives my wound-up energy. If I can remember this, catch myself before I become wound I then can stop. Sit. Breathe. Let go of MY agenda, MY timing, MY pushing. I am amazed how later – maybe even days later - it turns out there IS enough time, creativity, and knowing for everything to come together… and often, with a timing and orchestration I could never have pushed through. I wonder dear reader, is there something you need to stop doing to better hear the voice of your soul, your calling and your word? Is there a place wherein you run from your fear into ‘doing?’

"Teresa, thank-you so much for sharing your strength and wisdom with me -- and for giving me a gift I didn't really realize I needed -- permission to truly express my authentic self and to tell the world who I really am and what I offer. For that I am truly grateful."

Each of us has our answers within - sometimes we just need to listen more deeply, practice more patience, solitude, reflection, contemplation and sharing with someone who listens and cares. For many people - friends and family cannot offer this type of mentoring or support when the time has come to listen to one's own truth above all else.
Within my Lifework Mentoring I offer suggestions and practices for you that have brought me closer to my True Self, and have resurrected my mission and my passion from the ashes. Most of us simply need someone who can reflect our “holy music” back to us and encourage us to follow our True Self. It is so easy to overlook our own ‘God-ness.’
Please visit me at "Lifework Mentoring" if you would like to find out about our introductory, 30 minute, complimentary Lifework Mentoring session.
