Table of Contents 1. Know Thy Self 2. Free Your Creativity and Become Whole 3. The Taming of the Shrew 4. Nightmares Offer Healing Wholeness Know Thy SelfI do not write for fame or fortune. Rather I write to know myself and my God; to free my creativity and my soul; and at times to purge life’s hurt and rebalance myself. I’ve been journal writing most of my life and prolifically the past few years. When I do “Lifework Mentoring” with people one of the first things I suggest is the practice of journal writing. I recommend writing three pages (you can decide the size of page) every morning upon arising before one’s busy mind and day take over. Julia Cameron first wrote of this technique in “The Artist’s Way, A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity.” Free Your Creativity and Become WholeYou do not have to be a writer to journal. Simply write whatever crosses your mind and keep your hand moving. I can testify that this act of writing three morning pages - every morning - will help free your creativity and make you whole. Regardless of whether you are an aspiring painter, musician, web designer, or corporate executive writing three morning pages will reconnect you with your truth and creativity. Within the morning pages much of what we are is revealed, re-shaped, re-birthed and remembered. Whatever needs our attention or expression will voice itself if we faithfully pour ourselves onto the pages every morning. Years of funneling our life force into working for a living and caring for our children/aging parents may fill our pages. The loss of our creativity and self expression may find a voice within our morning pages. A yearning for our own center of gravity – rather than our lives spiraling around others – may unfold upon these early morning pages. Slowly we begin to remember and trust the familiarity of these deep longings and truths. Even when we are faced with searing hurt and loss amongst the ashes we trust and continue writing our morning pages. We trust the process is burning away the dross, freeing our creative soul, making us whole. The Taming of the ShrewAt times our shrewish, internal critic mercilessly belittles us as we try to write. “What a waste of time, you’re doing it wrong, you have nothing to say, nothing works for you, and you’ll never be a …” Calmly observing, we write the demeaning muck within our morning pages. Looking more deeply we see it is NOT TRUE! We learn to recognize this tiresome tirade as an old ghost from our past. We boldly challenge the toxic tirade by rewriting that sticky muck. “There IS no wrong way to write morning pages. People love to hear what I have to say. Everything is working toward my highest good. I am a writer!” Even upon the mornings wherein muck seems to be our only written word, we trust. Later - at times much later - we see how those morning pages cleansed and reshaped us. Through trusting and faithfully writing every morning we come to intimately know the whole of who we are. Nightmares Offer Healing WholenessDuring a morning when we awaken from a terrible nightmare or seemingly trivial dream – we, like good soldiers - witness and honor those dreams and nightmares by recording them within our morning pages. After writing the dream I often pause and then, ask God (your true self, the Great Mystery) to help interpret the dream. At times, I am surprised and humbled by the insights, admonitions and shadows that speak to me from those dreams within my journal writing. Through this deeper knowing of myself I sense a healing wholeness. At times I will write a question within my journal that currently weights my heart. Then, with a pause for prayer and three deep breaths I begin writing anew. Often the answer I need to hear unfolds within my writing although not always in that moment. Next morning as I sit down to write my morning pages the truth I needed to hear may unexpectedly be revealed… to a query I’d posed days ago. We come to know ourselves and our God within at a deeper level through faithfully writing our morning pages. Dear reader, will you give yourself the gift of reconnecting with your true self through the intimate act of journal writing? Will you tame the shrewish mind that says you can’t write or that it is a waste of time? I guarantee you’ll learn to deeply love and understand the one who shows up within those morning pages!

"Teresa, thank-you so much for sharing your strength and wisdom with me -- and for giving me a gift I didn't really realize I needed -- permission to truly express my authentic self and to tell the world who I really am and what I offer. For that I am truly grateful."

Each of us has our answers within - sometimes we just need to listen more deeply, practice more patience, solitude, reflection, contemplation and sharing with someone who listens and cares. For many people - friends and family cannot offer this type of mentoring or support when the time has come to listen to one's own truth above all else.
Within my Lifework Mentoring I offer suggestions and practices for you that have brought me closer to my True Self, and have resurrected my mission and my passion from the ashes. Most of us simply need someone who can reflect our “holy music” back to us and encourage us to follow our True Self. It is so easy to overlook our own ‘God-ness.’
Please visit me at "Lifework Mentoring" if you would like to find out about our introductory, 30 minute, complimentary Lifework Mentoring session.
