I have written and researched these current health articles based on principles I do my best to live. I hope through writing these you too may be inspired to adopt a lifestyle that nourishes your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being as well as that of our precious planet.
We are spiritual beings housed within earthly bodies which are our temple. How can we hope to grow as spiritual beings if we are oblivious to the consequences of our actions? It is our lifework to respect and care for our body/temple and also for our planetary home.
In my article “Toxins in the Human Body” (click here to read) I draw attention to the multitude of dangerous toxins in our cosmetics, personal care products, and home. In this article I also suggest ways we can educate ourselves, petitions we can sign and how to make healthy choices for ourselves and our planet. We CAN make a difference.
We can begin with simple things. For example don’t eat or drink out of plastic and never microwave plastic. Plastic baby bottles and water bottles leach Bisphenol A (BPA) into our water and milk.
BPA imitates estrogen, and in animal studies it has been shown to cause reproductive harm, and linked to prostate disease, breast cancer and birth defects, even in low doses. Read the research and current health articles on BPA’s at
"Our Stolen Future."
Do not cook in Teflon or coated frying pans. The current health article written by The News Journal this spring cites high levels of PFOA chemicals in the blood of DuPont Co. workers.
Ask if that new couch or rug you are considering buying has been sprayed with fire retardant and if so, don’t buy it. Refuse the stain repellent option too. Polar bears are facing a new toxic threat: flame retardants (PBDEs). In tests on laboratory animals, PBDEs disrupted thyroid and sex hormones and damaged developing brains, impairing motor skills and mental abilities, including memory and learning. Not something we want in our home.
Renovating - Painting? Use only low VOC paints to avoid toxic fumes that can continue to off-gas for long periods of time.
In a current health article I wrote on the Benefits of a Healthy Diet I outline why buying organic and locally grown foods helps create better health for ourselves, our communities and our planet. Some people say they cannot afford to buy organic.
If we consider the toxic load added to our own bodies and to our planet when we buy/eat produce doused in chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides how can we afford NOT to buy organic? Only now are we glimpsing the cost of wanton, long-term chemical use in our world.

Eat good oils: organic, cold-pressed oils. Butter in moderation is ok. Stay away from fake fats like butter substitutes in baking products, hydrogenated or modified oils, trans fats, interesterified oil” (usually soybean, canola, or palm). Beware this New Generation of Fake Fats.

For me exercise is about more than maintaining physical health. It is also about my emotional and spiritual well-being. Every since I was a child I have felt the need to be outdoors everyday for my well-being. I walk my neighborhood for at least 20 minutes everyday – and I love it. Even though I am a city dweller my walk connects me with nature, the seasons and my community (and gives me daily exercise).
We can make a difference in our health and the health of the world. WE HAVE GREAT POWER. With every dollar we spend we are voting for the practices of the company our dollar supports.
Are we going to support corporations who put profits before people… profits before the planet? Corporations who willing put ingredients into their products that are toxic to the human body and the planet?
Let us create health for ourselves, our communities and our planet through voting wisely with every dollar we spend! Let's make this our lifework.
