Intuition: Is Called A Sacred Gift
by Albert Einstein

"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind a faithful servant." --Albert Einstein

Here is probably the greatest scientist of the last century, and is he dismissing intuition as a dreamlike fable or something totally unreal? No, he is actually saying that it is of a higher nature and deeper quality that just the rational mind alone.

How can this be possible? Isn't the rational mind and the intellect the be all and end all of our inborn capabilities for reasoning and problem solving? How can such a mental giant as Einstein possibly even consider giving us this remarkable conclusion about the rather questionable qualities of intuition?

Well, actually because of course our rational minds and intellects are wonderful and remarkable for using the knowledge we have gathered and stored in our life history, including our: experience, education, parents, society, culture (and the list could go on and on).

But what about when we need some fresh and creative ideas, or a new perspective, or a way of looking at things that goes quite outside the lines and "beyond the box"? This is what Einstein is referring to, for it is here we find both the value and great inspiration of the whole area called intuition.

Intuition takes us to a place that is further than the just the rational mind can take us alone. One of the definitions of intuition is that is it "beyond the mind and the physical", and it is this quality of being "beyond the mind" that is what Einstein is referring to here.

In several documented interviews, he said most directly and clearly that many (or most) of the great breakthroughs in his own work, over the years, came from his intuition and the dream state, and not just from the toil and efforts of his everyday rational mind alone.

He also refers to intuition as a "sacred gift" which also shows that he must have been a man with a profound and rich inner life, and one that was also deeply connected to spirit and soul.

A rich and deep inner life with a spiritual connection, right along with his successes and accomplishments, that we are all so very familiar with, in the world at large.
