Living with Passion Before I Die

by Jan Moore
(Canada)

Living With Passion before I die is my purpose (and helping other people find theirs!)When my mother turned 40, my siblings and I ran through the neighbourhood announcing it to the world.

I'm not quite sure how she felt about that, but I do remember her telling me that even though she was now 40, she still felt the same inside. She also impressed upon me that even though I felt like time moved very slowly as a child, that once I turned 40 myself, I would realize how little time I actually had left and that time would speed up.

When I did turn 40, I revisited that thought and realized how true it was. That realization caused me to abandon my government job and choose life on the west coast instead. I knew the ocean was calling me home, but I didn't know why. Living with passion before I died became paramount for me.

My government "spin doctor" work was never fulfilling for me. I wrote about endless "initiatives" for bureaucrats who exhibited none. (Every Press Release had to have the word initiative in it.) I knew there was more to life than this and that I had to find or create meaningful work for myself.

This took me down the path of career counseling and self-employment, which soon transitioned into retirement coaching. I knew my work had to touch and connect with others at the heart level.

If your work or your life doesn't make your heart sing, it's not your real purpose in this world. We are here to make a difference in the lives of others. Our journey is to discover and share our gifts. Sometimes this becomes our paid work; often it's just who we are....

Meaning in Life....
by: Anonymous

Hi there "looking for meaning in my life;"

Teresa here. There was a query very similar to yours entitled: "Where do I start?" at the Finding Your Passion Forum at http://www.yourlifework.com/where-do-i-start.html

There were two comments written to that person one called "A little different angle" and after that was my comment entitled "Begin Within." Begin Within offers insights that helped me find meaning in my life and also, in finding my direction when career changing. I recommend you read and practice these tips to gain the clarity you seek.

Also, What would give you fulfillment? What do you think would be your path?

What if you won the 50 million lotto - what would you be doing with your time (after the holidays, buying spree etc). How would you like to contribute to this world? What do you love to do so much that you do whether you are paid for it or not? Ponder these questions. Ask your higher Self, God, and then, pay attention!

Try things on. Follow your hunches. Our divine self is always sending us messages of what else we need to express and do but often we negate these with the "Oh, be reasonable," brain washing.

Perhaps you would like to sign up for our free teleconference addressing issues just like these called 'Turn to the Light and Joy Within!" I will be hosting this September. Visit http://www.yourlifework.com/Light-and-Joy.html

What else am I called to do before I die?
by: Teresa

Hi Jan;
Thanks for your thought-provoking article "Living with Passion Before I Die." The "Before I Die" part caused me to stop. In the movie "Tuesday's with Morrie," Morrie, who was dying of Lou Gherig's Disease, says we should live our lives with a little bird on our shoulder asking us everyday, "Is today the day? Is today the day I will die?"

If we lived with that kind of awareness of our death's nearness likely, we would live our lives differently. Which begs the question, "What would you do if you only had one year left to live?"

Certainly, I would want to live with more equanimity. Not be so hung up on the little things in every day life that - more often than I like to admit - pull me away from my peace. You know, like the sometimes seemingly endless money, child, aging parent, work concerns. (This despite the fact I know we are hugely, abundantly blessed and give thanks daily!)

Surely, if I absolutely knew I had only one year left to live I would more readily muster the courage to be totally authentic. Not hold back with concern of how other people might see and judge me. But instead, really let loose and live and speak and dance and sing and write as fully and as wildly as my soul's longing.

Yes, I know. What am I waiting for? Well, to be fair to myself and to all us human beings - we haven?t missed our mark. Most of us are constantly growing into all that we can be (rather than shrinking and making our world a small fearful place). That passion, that longing in our soul to more fully, deeply express ourselves tends to find expression whether we are conscious of it or not.

Living our lives fully and passionately is not necessarily about some momentous top of the mountain wildly, passionate experience. It is about our work in the valleys, indeed some days in the mud and rain as well as our moments atop the mountain.

How much time do we really have? Yes! I WILL sing and speak and write and dance more freely!!

What about you? How would you like to more fully express your passion? (Or how are you living it now?)
