Work at Home

Work at home and self employment is an ideal many of us cherish. All of my life I have been self employed with my first enterprise beginning at age ten.

Back then, I was given the choice of picking, weeding and selling raspberries or cucumbers. It didn’t take me long to realize there was a better return - for less work - selling cucumbers than forever filling little green baskets for twenty-five cents. The cucumber queen was born!

My budding entrepreneurial spirit was well-tempered in my family by two big brothers who, at five and seven years older than me, seemed more like gods. Being the baby and only girl in the family I had to be smart, tough and feisty to keep up. Good grounding for the self employment world.

At eleven I was pounding nails along with my brothers, my dad and all the neighborhood boys on the pallet building project my father instigated for a few summers. I watched my big teenage brothers run their own business, shoveling truck loads of free cow dung from the neighbor’s farm and selling it. Selling free s---? Innovative lessons for a young girl!

At sixteen I managed (the owners said I “baby-sat” and enumerated me as such) a beaten down motel in the heart of the city, until the scary hours of the dark night. Later I learned this dump was a money-laundering pit for the Italian family I worked for. Adventures of the mafia maid!

At eighteen I followed my first love to Inuvik, in Canada’s Artic, and was the first “white” woman and certainly by far, the youngest person to drive cab in that frozen north.

One year later I bought my own taxi and later world traveled with the buckets of cash I earned. If you’ve read my site you know I also operated two women’s retail stores for almost a decade and worked as a free-lance columnist.

Over the past fourteen years, besides being a contract worker facilitating workshops and seminars, I have also sold numerous collectable books on E-bay and now, I am watching this site steadily grow.

Personally I really like the mix of working at home and also working by contract, part-time.

I know being a full-time entrepreneur is not for everyone but earning extra cash through work at home is ideal for most people. You can keep your day job as you build your business from home.

Here are some recommendations and helpful sites that may work for you on your path to creating extra income through work at home.

Build Your Own Web Business

<

We’ve all heard the big promise. “The Internet is the way of the future. You need to build a site to be successful.” Now we know better. There are sixteen million sites, of which 97% - 98% generate no income and some are not even found by the search engines.

My husband and I were clear we did not want to simply build a web site but rather, a web business that could help us earn extra income through work at home. Also, we wanted to build and manage the site ourselves, if possible, considering we are not technical people.

When my husband and I decided we wanted to build a web business we searched all the free “build your own” sites and other competitors. By far the best return we found for our money was Site Build It. Within this package we were able to find and register our domain name; build and design our site without technical knowledge; learn to write content so people and search engines like it; and build and mail out newsletters… and much more!

Are you wondering if Site Build It can work for you? We found it very useful to speak with one of SBI's phone/chat/e-mail advisors.

These free advisors will help you with answers to any questions you may have about SBI.

I am not saying building a web business has been a total breeze. It takes time, courage and a lot of commitment to build a web business or work at home.

Don’t waste your money if you are not prepared for this. SBI guides you every step of the way. We are still in our infancy but are much encouraged by our continued growth.
